Dennis Hinton, Managing Director
Dennis founded North River Group around the belief that traditional private equity does not partner well with family owned businesses. He is active in all stages of North River Group’s investments: deal sourcing, due diligence / deal execution, and portfolio company management. He has spent his entire career in private equity and is very active in the southeastern investment community. Before North River Group, Dennis was a Director at Bonaventure Capital and prior to that, an associate at The White Oak Group.
He holds a JD/MBA from The University of Alabama and also a BS in Finance from The University of Alabama. He serves on the Board of the Southern Capital Forum and serves as President of the Birmingham Alternative Investment Group & Atlanta Alternative Investment Group.
Outside of work, Dennis enjoys deer hunting and Alabama football.
Billy Harbert, Advisory Board Member
Billy is Chairman and CEO of BL Harbert International, LLC, a privately held company based in Birmingham, AL. BL Harbert International provides construction services throughout the world and is a leader in sustainable and design-build construction. The company maintains a diverse portfolio of successfully completed projects including U.S. Embassies, office, higher-education, healthcare and wellness, water and wastewater treatment plants, and government facilities.
He grew up in the construction industry as his father, Bill Harbert, helped pioneer the construction industry in Birmingham and eventually throughout the world. Prior to starting BL Harbert International in 2000, Billy served as President and Vice President of Bill Harbert International Construction.
Billy is a graduate of Auburn University with a BS in Building Science and earned his MBA from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School.
He is a member of the Society of International Business Fellows, Young Presidents’ Organization and serves on the Board of Directors for Highlands Day School.
Mike Chambers, Advisory Board Member
Mike Chambers was co-founder, CEO and Chairman of the Board of River Gas Corporation, a Tuscaloosa based production and exploration company that specialized in coalbed methane gas. In 2000, RGC was successfully sold to a major oil and gas company after 13 years of outstanding growth.
Mike’s strengths are manufacturing, operations, financial accountability and strategic planning. He is skilled in assessing procedure and operating efficiencies, as well as designing plans to track progress. A graduate of the University of Texas, he is married with two adult children.
